One of the newer functions that Seacoast Adopt-A-Block has blossomed into is that we provide community service opportunities. We have now become an outlet where people can come and serve their community and gain community service credit.
Learn More

Seacoast Adopt-A-Block was founded in the spring of 2005 with the hope of building meaningful relationships within our community, the Portsmouth-Seacoast Area.

We felt that there needed to be unity within our community when it came to serving the needs of the elderly, the widowed, the disabled, and those who could not help themselves.

Adopt-A-Block is the program whereby we help people
by providing free labor for things needed around the home.

While our primary help goes to the elderly, the disabled, the widowed and single parent homes; the services of Adopt-A-Block are here to help people any way we can.

Over the past several years our volunteers have painted, raked, shoveled, trimmed bushes, cut down trees, cleaned gutters, mowed grass, planted flowers, cleaned houses, grocery shopped, delivered gifts, made crafts, sang Christmas carols, moved furniture, delivered food and medicine, provided bedding &
clothing, cleaned up the city streets, helped in our city housing projects, and many other countless projects.
Check our calendar for the latest events

We exist to serve our fellow man and to help those who cannot help themselves. We do not question those we help about their finances nor do we charge for our help!

Seacoast Adopt-A-Block is a tool that will give people the opportunity to serve. This is what Seacoast Adopt-A-Block is all about! It makes sense, doesn’t it? Come and join us!

Any Saturday Morning: 9am-1pm

Every year thousands of needy families in the Greater Seacoast NH and Southern Maine area receive help from OB. It takes hundreds of tons of food, clothing, furniture…And Your generosity. Find out how you can help us help those in Seacoast community by donating your unwanted items.

Food
As much as 2,000 pounds of food are given out each week, much of which is received from a regional food bank at a fraction of normal retail pricing. The next greatest portion of donated food comes from affiliated churches, USDA, civic groups and food drives. Food donations are accepted on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Operation Blessing Center in Portsmouth.

Clothing
Donations of clothing in good condition are first sorted by volunteers, categorized , sized, then hung on hangers. Then they are placed on display for our clients to select what they need. This is made to look much like a department store so our clients will feel more encouraged and feel better about themselves and not so bad about their situation. Clothing donations are accepted Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Household Goods And Furniture
A unique aspect of this Ministry is the Household and Furniture Departments. Here we aid people who fall through the cracks of social services. O.B. has helped fire & flood victims, battered women, single pregnant mothers, vulnerable children, the disabled, the elderly, the critically ill, those transitioning out of homelessness into public housing, as well as those who have just been released from prison and are seeking a new start. Your donation will make a difference in someone’s life.

Operation Blessing was founded through a random act of kindness that bloomed into an operation of love throughout the Seacoast. Founded over 30 years ago, the center reaches out to thousands of people each year. Read more about Rachel Sparkowich, who along with her husband started this outreach.

The seeds of Operation Blessing were planted in the heart of Rachel Sparkowich in 1978, when she visited a local family that had many needs and did not know from where the next meal was coming. She was deeply moved by their situation and alerted friends, family and her church of their need. Items to aid the family began to flow into her home. She soon met more families with critical needs and by 1981, approximately 25 families were being helped out of her home. As the community responded to the need, her home was rapidly becoming too small to serve as the hub of operations.

The answer to prayer came in 1982, when free space in the basement of a local church became available. Rachel’s husband, Rick, became more actively involved and at a meeting held in their home, representatives from four area churches stepped forward to become coordinators. The coordinators serve to make the needs of the Ministry known to their pastors and congregations.

The outreach, which had previously operated on a small scale, took on the name Operation Blessing and began to grow rapidly as more volunteers and churches became involved. Currently operating in 10,000 square feet of space in Portsmouth, NH, Operation Blessing now has more than 50 volunteers, a small staff, and more than 40 coordinators at affiliated churches.

Since 1995, Operation Blessing has served the needs of over 187,000 people in their time of crisis. Today, thousands of people are helped annually and the need for volunteers, public support, and services continues to grow as more churches become actively involved and the economy creates hard times for families in our community.
